The World will end next Wednesday.

4 09 2008

Thats because the worlds largest Hadron Collider will go online, which will be capable of creating black holes that will suck the Earth and the Universe into it.

We’re doomed! Doomed I tell ya!

Right, just had to get that off my chest. So silly scaremongering aside, Here’s the Science:

The 17-mile-long ring, located 100mtrs below the French-Swiss border is the world’s most powerful—and most talked about—particle accelerator will begin collecting experimental data. The LHC’s research potential is staggering, with physicists hoping to use the accelerator’s extremely high-energy proton collisions to generate a range of theoretical particles. Some of those particles could help us to understand the nature of mass, including the as-yet-undetectable dark matter that accounts for so much of the universe’s mass. Other particles might prove the existence of extra dimensions, or lead to entirely new theories or physical laws.

Physicists have pointed out that the microscopic black holes the collider could generate would disappear almost instantly, without wreaking any havoc on the accelerator or the rest of world.

There has been some doom mongering from various sources, which I do find amazing, and the following comment from some fellow struck me:

“I have come to the conclusion that human beings will always conduct experiments no matter how dangerous they are. We will keep pushing until an experiment doesn’t go as planned and destroys all life on this planet.

The same could be said for the “Manhattan Project”, a few minutes before the first detonation of the bomb, one of the scientists believed that according to his calculations the bomb would destoy the entire world. This obviously turned out not to be entirely true. It did however destroy Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

06-09-2008 Update:

I have Some more information on the Hadron Collider. A set of fantastic pictures can be viewed here.

A good article by Professor Brian cox can be viewed here.

And finally, an excellent article on the Collider from a professor of theoretical physics at the City University of New York, Michio Kaku. The article can be viewed here.

10-09-2008: Update Number 2.

This second update can be viewed here!

I don’t think it should be done. Why risk life? Just to find out what space is made of? Plus it’s been done with out the concent of most of the earth. It’s not fair.

Interesting comments.

I perhaps need to clarify “worlds going to end” stuff when they turn that bad boy on has been flying around the Internet for ages and is not me winding you lot up. You only need to search for it.

It has had a lot of publicity, If they hadn’t publicised it, then to quote a line from the film Dr strangelove:

“Of course, the whole point of a Doomsday Machine is lost, if you keep it a secret! Why didn’t you tell the world, eh?”

Wow… all of these comments… especially the one by lia, yeah, talk about following one’s own advice. Well, perhaps your post struck a nerve?

Anyway, this Haldron Collider stuff is interesting and cool, but it still has me wondering – “what would Mulder do?” Mulder, I think, would be freaking out right now. And that is slightly disconcerting.

[...] 6/9/08 – We’re all going to die anyway. On Wednesday it seems. Some wacko scientists are planning on attempting to recreate the big bang or something and there is a 1 in 500 million chance that it will create a blackhole and we will be sucked into obliviation. MLH-

You are correct of course.
We should panic and rant a bit, just for form’s sake.

Actually the information in the net indicates a tiny tiny black hole property entity may result which would bound back and forth through the earth gathering matter as it grows to consume the earth.

Ok, I am being supportive and appreciative for your post on the end of the world.
Ready? Here goes:

Yikes! Panic, Panic, run in circles twice, rant, rant, run in circles again twice.
Screams- “Help” “Stop” “YIKES!” “Rats!”
Pant, pant, sits on stool, with terror in the eyes.

Thank you kindly for the information.
Yours truely,

“The LHC Safety Assessment Group have reviewed and updated a study first completed in 2003, which dispels fears of universe-gobbling black holes and of other possibly dangerous new forms of matter, and confirms that the switch-on will be completely safe.

The report explains that if particle collisions at the LHC had the power to destroy the Earth, we would never have been given the chance to exist, because regular interactions with more energetic cosmic rays would already have destroyed the Earth or other astronomical bodies.

The Safety Assessment Group writes, “Nature has already conducted the equivalent of about a hundred thousand LHC experimental programmes on Earth – and the planet still exists.””

I think that life on earth started to end on the day humans inhabited it. All we do is suck the planet dry of all its resources and drive other species into extinction.
We are our own killers and have doomed ourselves since the day we were born.

Dear people who published this article, I’m fourteen years old with my whole life ahead of me, next Wednesday. I agree with this post that we are all going to die. We’ve got a 13 year old who’s posted his/her opinion on this, well done for you, being honest with yourself. Now we’ve got our whole life ahead of us, and I think that the only course we can take to stop this is by KILLING! Let’s drop a bomb on the sicko’s who’re risking the lives of everyone and everything and let them answer to god or whoever runs the scene. I’m sure there’s a nice place reserved for them in the depths of hell! But what can we do about it, we’re just the citizens of our countries, they won’t listen to us. I think that dangerous experiments like this should only EVER be considered if they’ve been approved by 3 quarters of the UN. We’re just blogging because we want our voices to be heard by others. I hope one of our leaders or high ranking government people come across this and do something!

What are you all fretting about? Silly lemmings.

Even if the blackhole produced from this Hadron Collider was dense enough to sustain itself for more than one sixteen thousandths of a second, it would flit out of existence too fast for anything except the world’s fastest n-farmed super computers to detect its existence. Your fears are being fed by what Hollywood has taught you about black holes.

Black Holes are super dense areas in space where a super-giant star burned out its fuel and collapsed so rapidly that it created a quantum tear in the fabric of space/time. The center of a black hole is so dense that light cannot escape it (hence why it appears black). But a hadron collider doesn’t produce enough gigajoules of energy to produce a hadron collision powerful enough to create a black hole dense enough to swallow the earth. The stars that collapse to prodcue a black hole are thousands of times larger than our ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM… Think about that for a second.

Yes that’s right – the stars which collapse into black holes are so freakin’ huge that our Sun in comparison would be like a speck of sand in comparison to a wrecking ball. Stars have to be of a certain size (like Arcturus, which by itself dwarfs our entire solar system), mass or density (like super dense Neutron stars which are as dense as our entire solar system packed into a football) before they can collapse to produce a black hole.

Can you imagine the amount of energy that would be needed to create a black hole dense enough to crush the entire earth? It would require about 80 billion times our Sun’s total energy (which cosmically dwarfs all the energy on earth by several factors of trillions) to produce a black hole that dense. Compare that to a Hadron Collider that is barely peaking the energy consumption of all of Germany to produce a black hole that is hundreds of times tinier than a living cell…

…seriously. You guys are just being frightened by Hollywood mumbo jumbo.

Even IF by some astronomical chance CERN manages to create a black hole dense enough to swallow the entire planet, it would happen at the speed of light. There would be no epic world destruction sequence befitting of a Hollywood blockbuster movie. It would happen quite literally in several thousandths of second – too fast for anything pain signals to reach your brain to let you know that you’re in danger. So fast, that you would be conscious in one second and then half a second later, NOTHING…

Now if you ask me, that’s the best way to die: Quick, painless and without warning. So that’s two pretty damn good reasons why you guys have absolutely nothing to fear. ;)

However, the amount of comments that I have chosen not to put up would indicate that if you told people that the entire purpose of the Wind turbines that are now dotted around the UK coastline was for power generation and not an attempt blow the country closer to Europe, they would probably think its some kind of conspiracy for closer union with Europe from Brussels.

Not that any of them could point to Brussels on a map of Europe. Or possibly know where Europe is.

Dag nab it!

Coast to Coast had a program on this presenting the real possibility that a tiny black hole could be formed by the collision, sink to the center of the earth and break through the surface as a quazar eating the earth up from the inside out in about 4 months.

The experts argued that the possible destruction of the earth outweighed any information that might be gained and risking the earth and all therein is wrong.

Even more interesting, no court has blocked this particular experiment from taking place.

A few guys get to roll the dice with us all.

If we bite the big chalupa, it will be due to the egos of a handful of people.

I’m not stupid for the person who said I was a few speech’s up, quite smart actually.
In any case I am sad to admit that we need those sicko’s to make all of our technology, but we don’t need the scientists involved with this project.
You think I have limited intelligence, I bet you’re wondering the same thing! My Intelligence is anything but limited.
To MLH, thanks for your compliment, I haven’t thought of becoming a politician because my time is divided between research and book writing. This doesn’t matter because in about two days we might be dead.
If we don’t die, I think we can admit we were wrong, seeing as how this thing is staying on for three years apparently. My entire school is worried about it, but the thing is that shouldn’t be put through this.

Until recently, I was quite confident that these scientists knew what they were doing, and would not endanger the entire world. We must admit they must be incredibly ’smart’, I believe they are Swedish or Swiss, or what ever, which fills me with confidence, Euorpean countries, especially ‘ish’s’ are very intelligent and respectable nations. If the experiment was conducted by an American research Body, then I would be shitting myself right now!

But as I said, ‘until recently’, that was when I saw a photo of the main scientist ‘dude’ in the paper, and he was wearing a polo shirt and shorts, sitting next to some hairy monster, who looked like a stoned college ‘dude’. And now I fear for us all…

Mc lovin, i think you’ll find that its not just the French, there are about 2000 physicists of all nationalities working on this project.

Fred, I don’t know what country you are from, but in the UK in the 1970’s we used to have programs on the TV after midnight for the Open University, mainly people lecturing on Science etc.

I think you have described a few of the lecturers with alarming detail.

can i just say, its seems like a load of rubbish. if they were going to do something that would threaten all civilastions then all the world leaders would have had a huge conference and if they all love their money and power as much as they seem to, they wouldnt do anythig that could get rid of that. and in response to jordan’s comment, why england ? i live in england and i would appreciate it if we didn’t get bombed. and i agree with whoever said that the end of the word started when humans inhabited it. i dont do all i can, but i agree that we’re ruining everythng. but thats pollution. and we’re on about big diggers. i doubt it will even work, becaue if the scientists have doubts then you know. but i the earth did disappear on wednesday then we’d know who to haunt in the afterlife. so, if we die, we die. there’s not alot we can do about it. we’re all in the same boat, and noone can be saved. including the scientists, so we can all blame them. but it will be in our minds, cuz we’d kind of be dead. anyways, the scientists would have killed themselves. i doubt they’d endanger themselve’s, even if it is for scientific purposes. so i doubt it that we’re going to die on wednesday basically. and just for the record, im fourteen aswell, and i have my own opinion and i just told you them, =).

Didn’t something like this happen in the movie “The Mist”?

In the movie the US government was doing some kind of an experiment and tuned a machine on, which caused another dimension to open up and all hell broke loose.

This is some scary shit, but even more scary is that no one in the media, no news, no magazine, no newspaper is reporting this. We all could lose our lives in a couple of days and no one cares. If it wasn’t for this blog and others on word-press I wouldn’t even have heard of this going on. Scary shit indeed.

If a mini black hole was formed today, the math of it states that it would take four months to grow enough to break through the surface of the earth, with no way to tell if this is taking place until the terminal events.

Scientific side of the LHC may be dangerous, but fascinating. And real scientists were always slightly mad. But behind this tsunami of romantic universe related information only a few have noticed the second (not secondary!) purpose of the installation which before the end of this year will allow from any computer to access confidential, private information on any person in the whole world. And in conjunction with HAARP installation, it will allow remote mind control of any person. Take a look at my recent post about it to see what I mean.
